3/25/2023 0 Comments Slacker radio reviewsThe Slacker Personal Radio Player wouldn’t quite work for me at first, well not the player itself but the software that you need to use the player and configure your stations, and I think it’s more of a driver problem really. Slacker Portable 2GB Personal Radio Player w/4" LCD The Slacker itself is pretty big, but that’s mainly due to the very large screen which is nice really, too bad you couldn’t play video on it…Here’s a few views of the Slacker:< There is a bit included with the Slacker including USB power adapter, USB cable, earphones, sticker, extra earbuds and quick start guide, along with a case for the Slacker Personal Radio. The packaging is very stylish, though limited with what’s on it, no specs or anything listed really. Ok, I’ve got a video unboxing for you today! Check it out and continue on… So continue on to learn more about the Slacker… The Slacker features a beautiful 4" LCD screen that shows album covers, and artist information, and there’s even a touch navigation bar on the side as well for easy access. The Slacker caches the music in memory so there’s never any problem with radio signals, and of course there’s no commercials, and you can also add your own music to the player as well. Our friends at have sent me over the Slacker Portable G1 2gb Personal Radio Player for review and it allows you to select radio stations and take them with you on the go. The device, when synced, caches your stations in memory and away you go, you’ve got what looks like an MP3 player, but with radio stations so your music can be very assorted. Usually though you’re stuck with internet radio only on your computer, but there is a device out there that looks like an MP3 player, and in fact can store your Mp3s, but it’s primarily an internet radio receiver, but the best part is that you don’t need internet access all of the time to use it. So in comes internet radio which sort of offers the best of both worlds, different stations and CD quality audio, and of course no commercials. Having a flash memory MP3 player or hard drive version is nice, but you’re still stuck with all of the songs you put on it, so to add a bit of variety you’ll need the radio, but then again you’ve got to deal with commercials. At one time all I listened to was CDs in the card really, but I recently got a new car that features a 3.5mm audio input jack so now I don’t even have CDs in my car, I just take my Zune with me whenever I go out. I used to always listen the radio when I was younger, but after a while I just got sick of commercials, and now I rarely listen to it, usually it’s when I’ve forgotten to charge my Zune while driving in the car.

3/24/2023 0 Comments Irvue scriptingRather we want to compile them in the requisite manner when necessary, but unify on the semantics of the features. If we want to add top level statements and functions to C#, we don't want them to conflict with how those work in scripting. The goal in this scenario isn’t to eliminate the scripting dialect, but rather move the two languages closer together. If any of the top-level members are public, the class would be public, and marked in such a way that a consuming assembly would know to expose the members directly.Ĭ# already has a scripting dialect, though it does differ from C# itself. The class name would probably be unspeakable, and would be chosen in such a way that the same name wouldn't be used twice in the same namespace across different assemblies. The implementation would be that a partial class is generated to wrap the members as static members. (This is already how functions work in Visual Basic modules.) Consumers would see the function as belonging directly to the namespace. They would default to internal, though public would also be allowed. The functions can be declared within a namespace or globally. Top-level functions would also be allowed under scenario 2. Specifically, you would get multiple classes named Program with Main functions. If multiple files have executable statements outside of a namespace, then a compiler error will occur. This function would support asynchronous operations. Any such statements would be compiled into a Main function in a class named Program. If scenario 1 of this proposal is adopted, executable statements would be allowed to appear before a namespace declaration. Why then not just keep interactive/scripting C# separate? Because I think it is going to be useful to be able to roundtrip code between "experimentation" and "software development". Not only is there Try.NET, but data-science and machine learning scenarios are also growing, and those tend to benefit from a much more direct - interactive mode of working with live data. However, usage is picking up through Try.NET and other technologies, and I am concerned with being stuck with two incompatible dialects of C#.Ĭurrently the scripting version of C# isn’t heavily used, but Torgersen predicts that will change in the future, Usage of the scripting dialect has been relatively minor, and in some ways it hasn't kept up with the "proper" C# language. In this dialect, statements can be written at the top level (without enclosing member bodies) and non-virtual members (methods etc) can be written at the top level (without enclosing type declarations). The C# compiler currently understands a dialect of the language used for various scripting and interactive purposes. His justification from the previous incarnation of this proposal is, Proposal 3117, Top-level statements and functions would allow statements and functions to be declared in a file without the need for encompassing class. Mads Torgersen of Microsoft is proposing C# 9 adopt this capability. By contrast, a language like VB, C#, or Java requires a ‘main’ method of some sort contained within a class. The very first line of a file can be the declarations and statements as you would see inside a function. One of the defining characteristics of “scripting” languages is they don’t need any boilerplate. 3/24/2023 0 Comments Sorty definitionTraditionally, companies have analyzed brand positioning and business performance separately: To locate gaps in the market and gauge how people feel about their brands, marketers have used perceptual positioning maps, which typically represent consumers’ perceptions of brands or products on opposing dimensions, such as budget versus premium or spicy versus mild. And yet, marketers have lacked the tools needed to get this balance right. Striking the right balance between centrality and distinctiveness is critical, because a company’s choices influence not just how the brand will be perceived, but how much of it will be sold and at what price-and, ultimately, how profitable it will be. Distinctive brands, such as Tesla in cars and Dos Equis in beer, stand out from the crowd and avoid direct competition with widely popular central brands. These brands shape category dynamics, including consumer preferences, pricing, and the pace and direction of innovation. They’re the first ones to come to mind, and they serve as reference points for comparison. Central brands, such as Coca-Cola in soft drinks and McDonald’s in fast food, are those that are most representative of their type. Marketers have always had to juggle two seemingly contradictory goals: making their brands distinctive and making them central in their category. In-depth examples of the car and beer markets demonstrate the value of this tool for managers of brands in any category. It also captures financial performance along a given metric, such as sales volume or price. It shows brands’ relative position in the marketplace according to perceived “centrality” (how representative a brand is of its category) and “distinctiveness” (how well it stands out from other brands). The C-D map links perception and performance in a new way. Other marketing tools measure brands on yardsticks such as market share, growth rate, and profitability but fail to take consumer perceptions into consideration. But their business value is limited because they fail to link a brand’s position to market performance metrics. Gill is sympathetic to Nemo because she was afflicted with a disease, and shares the same fears that his father did. The film shows how fish can overcome obstacles and adversity to find their lost son. The relationship between Nemo and Gill is vital to the central theme of Finding Nemo. In addition, her involvement with the search for Nemo makes her a key player. Her constant reminder to "just keep swimming" is one of the film's most memorable lines. For example, Dory, the fish that Dory resembles, is more positive and persistent despite her amnesia. Unlike the Ratatouille movies, Finding Nemo's characters are more complex and likable. The movie's characters are much more dynamic and interesting than those in its predecessor. The movie also features an animated version of the great white shark, Bruce, and Eric Bana as the hammerhead shark Anchor, and Bruce Spence as the squid-like fish, Chum. Other animal characters in the film include Bob Peterson, who plays the spotted eagle ray Mr. Elizabeth Perkins plays Marlin's wife Coral, and Nicholas Bird plays Crush's son Squirt. The Australian pelican Nigel is played by Geoffrey Rush, while Andrew Stanton is the green sea turtle Crush. The film features a cast of mostly animal characters. Meanwhile, Nemo's blue-reef friend, Dory, complicates his encounters with the ocean's many dangers. When the diver accidentally catches Nemo, Marlin must locate him and rescue his son. 3/23/2023 0 Comments Christophe dupinIt’s a long way from the Keystone Kops.’ Since I’m personally more inclined to associate film as an art form with the Keystone Kops than with the highly uneven, sporadic, and often misinformed coverage it can count on getting in the TLS – which would be far less likely to hand out its assignments relating to opera and theatre to amateur scholars on those subjects – I’m not entirely sure what kind of status is cause for celebration here. But even so, his way of charting that progress all the way up to October 2010, which is when his Foreword is dated, strikes me as rather odd: “If you want proof that film has really arrived, look at that bastion of academe the Times Literary Supplement and see how it now gives more space in its arts pages to film than it does to opera and theatre. According to Forman – director of the BFI from 1949 to 1955, who was recommended for the post by John Grierson, his boss at the Films Division of the Central Office of Information, and whose first major step, according to Nowell-Smith, “was the revitalization of Sight and Sound and the Monthly Film Bulletin” – he’d never even heard of the BFI when Grierson first told him about his recommendation, adding that “the rise in status of the BFI” since then “is the rise in the status of film itself”. The BFI has always been an organization that has to service and speak to many different positions about what cinema is, why it exists, and whether as well as how it deserves some sort of state support. (And, just for the record and the sake of full disclosure, I’m mentioned in the Acknowledgements and appear in a photograph of a picket line during a 1974 BFI strike, taken during my first month on the job.) The portions I have in mind, apart from the book’s Foreword (by Sir Denis Forman) and Introduction (by Nowell-Smith and Dupin) are Chapters 9 (‘The 1970s,’ 152-178), 10 (‘The Smith Years,’ 179-196), and 13 (‘The Sight and Sound Story, 1932-1992,’ 237-251), all three by Nowell-Smith. So I hope I can be forgiven for focusing here on just a few selected portions where I feel I’m more that casually acquainted with the subject matter, with the hopes that others can chime in with comments on the other parts on other occasions. But my qualifications for evaluating such a comprehensive history are limited, apart from having once been a short-term employee. This is a pity, because it’s the sort of book that should be more widely available to more than the university libraries that can still afford it. (By contrast, my hardcover copy of Ivan Butler’s long out-of-print and much sketchier – albeit useful – 208-page “ To encourage the art of the film”: The Story of the British Film Institute, which includes a comparable number of illustrations, carries a price of only £2.30 on its flyleaf.) meant that the only reasonable way I could acquire it was to ask to review it. This is what sparked my particular interest in this impressively detailed history, coedited and mostly written (apart from four of its 15 chapters) by the University of London’s Geoffrey Nowell-Smith and the International Federation of Film Archives’ Christophe Dupin after more than six years of research – and the fact that it retails for $95 at Amazon in the U.S. The most interesting job I’ve ever had was my two and a half years of working for the British Film Institute, between 19 – as both assistant editor of the Monthly Film Bulletin (under Richard Combs) and staff writer for Sight and Sound (under Penelope Houston, who was directly responsible for my getting hired), occasioning at the time a move from Paris to London.
